The Un-Common Theatre Company is thrilled to announce auditions for our Young Adult Production of The Play That Goes Wrong, directed by Becky Smith.

From Mischief, Broadway masters of comedy, comes the smash hit farce. Welcome to opening night of the Cornley University Drama Society’s newest production, The Murder at Haversham Manor, where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. This 1920s whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show—an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines). Nevertheless, the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences! Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, this Olivier Award–winning comedy is a global phenomenon that’s guaranteed to leave you aching with laughter!

What to prepare:
For all roles, please prepare one of the monologues found HERE. You may also select a 1-minute comedic monologue of your own. If you are  selecting your own, consider shows with a similar feeling to The Play That Goes Wrong such as A Flea In Her Ear by Georges Feydeau, Noises Off by Michael Frayn, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow, Mousetrap by Agatha Christie, anything by Christopher Durang, and more.

Come prepared to commit fully to the character, explore physical movement and choices, and to try the text a few different ways. You are encouraged though not required to try an accent in your audition.

We will be casting a main cast and a non-speaking stage crew ensemble. Members of the ensemble may also serve as understudies for the main roles.  A list of available roles can be found HERE .

Rehearsals are scheduled on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30 pm in Foxboro and Mansfield. Not all cast members will be required to be at all rehearsals. A rehearsal schedule will be made once the show is cast. Extra nights may be added as the show nears production week. Cast members are not allowed any absences 2 weeks prior to the show.

The production will take place July 18-21, 2024.

Production Fee: For main cast , the fee is $400 for the first family member and $350 for each additional sibling. For the stage crew ensemble/understudies, the fee is $200. This will be due at the first rehearsal. The production fees include professional pictures for downloading, and entrance for the cast member to any cast parties. Like most everything in the past few year, our expenses have gone up, including our cast fees. However, we at Un-Common believe that theatre should always be accessible. As such, we do provide scholarships. If this is the one thing keeping you from participating, please just reach out to the show producers, no questions asked.

For questions, please contact Un-Common at auditions@uncommontheatre.org.
